TIPS & RESOURCES
TIPS TO PREPARE
- Make sure shelves and cabinets are securely fastened to the walls. Place large/heavy objects on the lower shelves
- Store your breakable items in a low/closed cabinet with secure latches
- Store flammable and other hazardous products in approved safety cabinets away from sources of ignition
- Brace ceiling and overhead light fixtures by covering with protective enclosures and install shatterproof lamps
- Perform workplace surveys to identify potential hazards to workers if an earthquake does occur
TIPS TO RECOVER
- If 911 has not yet been called, call them and assist the injured
- Stay alert to safety issues created by the devastation of the earthquake - avoid entering buildings with structural/visible damage until authorized to do so by local officials
- Use caution when walking through debris. Watch out for broken glass and other materials or even spilled liquids
- Only trained personnel should be involved in search & rescue or demolition and cleanup operations
