  • Communicate and test a comprehensive emergency plan with your staff
  • Elevate power components if susceptible to flooding
  • Install check valves in sewer traps to prevent backup
  • Construct barriers to prevent floodwater from entering
  • Seal walls with waterproofing components to avoice seepage


  • If you smell gas or if flood water still surrounds the building, do not enter the facility
  • If there are any doubts on the facility safety, do not enter until its been inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer
  • Walk carefully around the outside for loose power lines or structural damage
  • Keep radio with you so you can listen for news updates
  • Service any damaged septic tanks, pits, cesspools and leaching systems ASAP
  • Floodwater may contain oil, gasoline, or raw sewage. Floodwater could also be electrically charged so its important to avoid floodwater as much as possible
