TIPS & RESOURCES
TIPS TO PREPARE
- Communicate and test a comprehensive emergency plan with your staff
- Elevate power components if susceptible to flooding
- Install check valves in sewer traps to prevent backup
- Construct barriers to prevent floodwater from entering
- Seal walls with waterproofing components to avoice seepage
TIPS TO RECOVER
- If you smell gas or if flood water still surrounds the building, do not enter the facility
- If there are any doubts on the facility safety, do not enter until its been inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer
- Walk carefully around the outside for loose power lines or structural damage
- Keep radio with you so you can listen for news updates
- Service any damaged septic tanks, pits, cesspools and leaching systems ASAP
- Floodwater may contain oil, gasoline, or raw sewage. Floodwater could also be electrically charged so its important to avoid floodwater as much as possible
